My Story
My journey into massage and wellbeing began after a varied career in the Royal Air Force. I joined the RAF in 1989, trained in several languages and was fortunate to experience postings and detachments in places including Berlin, the Falkland Islands and Jordan.
I spent two years at RAF Gatow shortly after the Berlin Wall came down and was there during German reunification. I also had the opportunity to visit Petra while in Jordan—an incredible place that has stayed with me ever since.
Although I enjoyed many unique experiences during my RAF career, I also understand how difficult it can be to balance work, family life and your own wellbeing. While raising my two children, particularly during periods when my husband was away, life often felt busy and stressful. Like many people, I found that my own needs could easily fall to the bottom of the list.
Discovering massage
After leaving the RAF in 2011, I moved to Naples with my family while following my husband’s Royal Navy career.
During this time, I began thinking more seriously about how I could help people who were feeling stressed, tense or overwhelmed. I returned to the UK to complete my first massage course and quickly discovered how rewarding it was to help someone relax and feel more comfortable.
I went on to qualify in ITEC Level 3 Holistic and Swedish Massage in 2012. Wanting to support people experiencing pain, restricted movement and sports-related injuries, I then completed a Level 5 qualification in Sports Massage and Sports Injury Treatment in 2014.
Since then, I have helped clients experiencing concerns such as muscular tension, sciatica, Achilles problems and restricted shoulder movement. I understand how frustrating it can be when pain or injury prevents you from doing the things you enjoy. Supporting clients as they become more comfortable, regain confidence in their movement and return to their usual activities is one of the reasons I love being a massage therapist.
Experience around the world
Following my training, my family moved to Cyprus, where we lived for four years.
During this time, I was able to use my massage skills to support people taking part in endurance events, including cyclists completing a four-day tour of the island and walkers covering approximately 26 miles from the top of the Troodos Mountains to the coast at Episkopi.
These experiences strengthened my understanding of how physical activity, recovery, stress and everyday life can all affect the body.
Continuing to learn
I moved to the Wrexham area in 2018 and continued to develop my knowledge and skills.
I qualified in ITEC Level 3 Reflexology in 2019 and later trained as a Yoga Instructor, Pilates Instructor and Yoga Nidra Facilitator.
I believe that continuing professional development is an important part of providing safe, thoughtful and effective treatments. My additional training has included:
-
The muscles and movement of the shoulder complex
-
Menopause holistic health and wellbeing
-
Reflexology techniques to support relaxation and wellbeing
-
Aromatherapy and personalised reflexology treatments
-
Hot and cold stone massage
-
Crystal massage and facial massage techniques
This combination of massage, reflexology and movement knowledge allows me to look at each client as an individual rather than following the same routine for everyone.
My approach to treatment
Every treatment at Harmony Wellbeing is adapted to you.
You may come to me because you are experiencing aching shoulders, tight muscles or restricted movement. You may be struggling to sleep, feeling stressed or finding it difficult to switch off. You may simply need a quiet hour where nothing is expected of you.
Whatever brings you through the door, my aim is to create a calm and welcoming space where you feel listened to, comfortable and supported.
I do not believe that massage needs to be extremely painful to be effective. Pressure and techniques are always adapted to your comfort, your needs and what your body is telling us on the day.
Outside the treatment room
Movement and wellbeing have always been an important part of my life.
I have run on and off since school and discovered a love of half marathons after completing the Great North Run in 2000. Since then, I have completed races in the UK and overseas, including the Istanbul Marathon, half marathons in Paphos and Limassol, and a 30-kilometre trail race through the mountains of Northern Cyprus.
These days, I balance running with yoga, Pilates and early morning walks with my labradoodle, Leo.
When I am not working or exercising, I enjoy reading, crocheting, knitting, cross-stitch and creating mosaic pieces. I understand the importance of finding small moments to slow down, recharge and do something simply because it brings you joy.
